Move-In 239: A Thomas Kinkade Original Finds Its Perfect Home
It may have been bitter cold outside, but inside that apartment everyone felt the warmth. This was Yvonne Miranda’s first independent design project with Home 2 Home, and she led it beautifully. Yvonne brought together a team of volunteers — Kris Veenbaas, Kathy Robbins, Lisa Andrews, Jeff Andrews, Gia Schurla, and Luka Schurla — to create a healing space for our Kenneth Young Center client. Every detail of the layout and décor was intentional, planned to support the client on her path forward.
And then something extraordinary happened.
Our client had shared her love for Thomas Kinkade’s artwork, but in nine years of running Home 2 Home, we have never once received a Thomas Kinkade piece. Not one. That’s why what happened next felt like more than coincidence. As Yvonne was leaving the warehouse at the end of the day, a young man walked in carrying a small box. He set it down and began speaking with another volunteer. Yvonne kept walking toward the door — and then something told her to turn back. She walked over, lifted the lid of the box, and there it was: a Thomas Kinkade. The exact artist our client had mentioned. A perfect match for her space, her spirit, and her story.
We all like to say we “don’t believe in coincidences” — but this moment felt like divine timing.
We are grateful to Zelda’s Kitchen Witches for the generous donation of kitchen essentials, and to Linda Farley for the welcome baskets that make each move-in feel so personal. Warm thanks to everyone who donated from our wish lists, dropped off items in person, or supported this mission in any way. We truly could not make dreams come true without you.
And a huge thank you to Freddie and Adan from Clear Space Junk Removal, who committed to assisting with our November and December move-ins at an incredibly reasonable rate. Their support has been invaluable.
Move-In 239 was more than a furnished apartment — it was Yvonne’s first independent design, a space filled with care and compassion, and a reminder that sometimes, when we listen to that little nudge, something divine unfolds.
