#MoveInDay 69

#MoveIn Date: March 11, 2020

The “Afters” would still be the “Befores” had we ignored this family and done nothing! As you look at the “Before” pictures, realize the family had been living with nothing for four months before we arrived. Whether time, talent or treasure was given, THIS happened because good people who care came together to MAKE it happen!!!

You could’ve swiped up and deleted the post, but you decided that this family was important enough to step up and make a difference!

Thank you to the following:

  • Meg Caswell for leading us with your design expertise and enthusiasm!

  • Heidi Peters, Adam Purcell, and Elizabeth Engels for a great day filming all of the chaos and laughter along the way, we ❤️ working with you!

  • Volunteers: Sherry Kulhanek, Debby Meredith, Gina Sineni, Carla Williams, Monika Seger, Kathy Robbins, Roxanne Lostroscio, Barbara Haran and Rochelle Mahoutchian-Elias.

  • Jason Huth for all of the prep work ahead of time and for picking up the mattresses at SharingConnections, DownersGrove.

  • Penny Kirschbaum of Kirschbaum's Bakery for the sweetest part of the move-in.

  • Karen Mucha of Total Window Treatments, Elmhurst for generously supplying us with brand new blinds for each window.

  • Meg Keeve of My Craft Bar for the custom made signs in the bedroom.

  • a huge thank you goes out to Randy Holladay, Meg Caswell’s husband, and Rohan Ward of Rohan Ward Designs for putting together an IKEA sofa that was mind numbingly complicated and could only be done by professionals (which you are)!

  • A big giant thank you and shout out goes to Mike Boerman of Boerman Moving, Storage & Logistics (630) 972-1000 for generously sponsoring this #MoveInDay by providing free moving services. Marco and Nick were awesome!

For those of you who are finding us for the first time, #Home2HomeProject collects gently used furniture and household items and re-purposes them along with a list of brand new items (ie, anything that touches the skin such as mattresses, towels, dishes, sheets, shower curtains etc.) when someone is transitioning out of homelessness and into a home of their own. All of our clients are referrals from partnering agencies.

According to IL HUD data 50% of all homeless leaving the shelters will return within six months, after three years we have only had two people return to the shelters.
